The first episode was shown on Swedish National Television (SVT1) on March 26
2001. The series is based on Victoria Benedictsson's novel "Fru Marianne"
that was published 1887. Carin Mannheimer wrote and directed the TV version.
Only 16 years old, the spoiled city-girl Marianne is wed to a simple but wealthy farmer.
Life changes completely and the marriage is not what Marianne expected.
The role as head of the household suits her poorly and her relationship with her husband is complicated.
As time goes by, their relationship slowly deepens and she becomes a companion in the daily work on the farm. "Fru Marianne" is an timeless portrait of a woman that is valid, even in our days.
Magnus Strömberg composed the score and theme.
